Default hi, new rider with a couple questions

hello all,

like i said in the title i am a new rider. i have been on dirt for a little while but just got my first street bike. i picked up a new 2007 cbr600rr in pearl white. god i love that beast, but i do have one problem. being that i am only 5'3" tall, when i come to a stop im on my toes only and it is making me a little less confident with being new to the seen and all. i have herd of a few solutions and wanted to find out from some of you more experienced riders what you think i could do. shave the seat, soften the rear suspension, get a lowering link, or get some riding boots with a nice big heal. now also i would like to not mess with the handling too much because i love it just the way it is, and i have herd that the lowering link will change that. what are your guys suggestions??

also i am still kinda wary on major streets, any suggestions to help build up my confidence is greatly appreciated.

thanks

Ididntdoit,
That could be a concern for you, considering you are new to street bikes. Anything that hurts your confidence puts you at a disadvantage. You can lower these bikes, but the more you lower them, the more you mess with your ability to corner. I've heard 1-1 1/2" max. Also, I would look for some riding boots with some sole...then you'll be able to boogie, too (bad joke [:@]). Good luck to you, welcome to the forum, and sweet choice of bikes. Please be very very careful out there! See you around...

Yeah but it won't do much for you at all. It will not be enough.

well im just thinking do the lowering link but only like 1 inch not the 3 because everyone i talk to says 1 wont be bad but 3 will mess with the handling too much, so what about 1 inch on the lowering link and if thats still not enough soften the shock a little and shave the seat?

seat time, that is the only way you'll get comfortable on the major streets and in the traffic.........put yourself out there, be safe and ride like no one see's you. if you're coming up on a group of cars, slide you're thumb over the horn...just incase one darts out you are prepared. give the bike a few revs as you are passing cars to make sure you're heard. also, leave you're highbeams on.....make yourself noticed.

be safe, and have a blast!

and w/ being a bit short and tippy toeing at stops.........

as you come to a stop, dont hesitate as to where the weight of the bike is going to go, onto which leg. as you are coming to a stop, decide which leg you want the bike to lean on instead of trying to get both down. i was told most new people wreck at stops b/c they try to wait and see where the weight is going to go then they attempt to hurry up and prepare that leg. but if you choose which side its going to lean to, then you wont have a problem.
