Default Hi, new guy.. little help please..

Hi all, I'm originally from the UK but now living in sunny Southern California, Just picked up a rather rough (mainly cosmetic) CBR1000rr 06 with 12k miles. I'm wondering what you guys do for initial maintenance when you get a bit of an unknown bike. I'm thinking the obvious oil/filter/plugs/ valve check. Would it be wise to fit a new cam chain too. I've been a quad/dirt bike guy up till now, so these IL4's are a bit new to me.

Also can someone identify this part for me? Please! It comes out along the top lhs of the radiator and looks like it screwed into the fairings (the fairings were gone), it's broke and I just need to know what it is to get a new one.. I can't find it in the manual!Name: EE6F6AE4-1B03-4F2E-BDE2-923B360EA2C5-2772-000009B6A6802C4A.jpg

Welcome to the forum.
It's a good idea to change all the fluids, lube things that get lived, and adjust the adjustable stuff. That way you know that its been done and when. That part looks like a broken VSV for something. If its a Calif bike, it may be for the EVAP system.

I'm in socal too. Where abouts are you?

Thanks, still at the finding stuff wrong with stage... not got to the adjusting stage yet.. I got it cheap cos the kid really knew nothing about it and wrecked / butchered it a bit.. motor seems fine though.. just needs some tlc.

I tracked that part down via the wire colors.. it's the Air Intake Duct Sol Valve.. which is one of the "flapper mod" parts so it can just be removed apparently...

I'm in Carlsbad (N. San Diego), you close?

The flapper can be removed but leave the broken valve plugged in bu not hooked to anything or the FI light will come on. It may be removed already.

I'm not too far from you. I'm in lake elsinore, just up the 15

Thanks.. the vacuum tank has gone, but the hoses are still there, this was the side previous guy layed it down on in the car park so he must have just pulled all the broke stuff off...great! (that's why it was cheap). There may be other stuff getting removed too, I'll need to keep a eye on my warning lights...

I work in Temecula.. nice little commute on a bike...
