Greetings - 1988 CBR 600
 

Hello everyone, just this weekend I purchased my first motorcycle and it just so happened to be a 1988 CBR 600. I'm fairly happy with the deal since it only had 20k miles on it. I took it out for spin last night and she rode just fine, plenty of spunk (more than I expected actually).

The good:
Only 20k miles
Yoshimura muffler sleeve
Runs perfectly fine
New tires

The bad:
She had been laid down but the damage is cosmetic and nothing significant. There's barely a scratch on any metal but that front fairing on the right side got some abuse. Luckily I've found a front stay on ebay cheap.

The previous owner thought the stator was bad but didn't do any testing. I'll verify that tonight or tomorrow when I get the chance.

Excellent forum, there's a lot of good information on here. Plus from what I have seen and felt of my bike I can see why you all love yours.

Congrats on the bike!
Have a read through some of the many threads on stators, regulator/rectifiers, and batteries. R/Rs and burned plugs are common for those bikes.

Same bike as me. Awesome bike, great starter plus alot of room to grow into. You will love it. You can check out some pictures in the link in my signature!

Thanks for the warm welcome everyone. I'm certainly excited although the mod freak in me is already thinking of what I can do to personalize her. I'll be checking around seeing what kind tricks I can learn.

All in all $650 for the bike really doesn't seem like a bad deal to me. Especially considering the low miles and how wonderfully she runs. Not to mention the wicked sound from the Yoshimura pipe.

I look forward to talking with everyone. This is partially new for me. My dad is a gear head if you will and I grew up around cars and bikes. He would modify anything. Me, I chose to go the computer/technology route so I work on computers. To me the mentality has a lot of similarities especially the logical troubleshooting steps.
