First water cooled bike.
Hi,
I have been riding for 40+ years but just bought a 1989 CBR 600 for my son and my next project. It is our first water cooled bike and it has a blown head gasket. However, it does start, and clutch and transmission appear to be ok.
I can change the head gasket, but am considering changing to an F2 or F3 engine since they seem to have better parts availability. I'm sure that I can fab the motor monts, but I'm not sure about the compatibility of the electronics and carburetors between the F1 and later engines.
I did a search and did not see much about swapping the later engines into the F1 frame so there may be problems that folks have experienced in the past.
I have already seen a lot of information on the forum and look forward to future information. There seems to a a lot of knowledgable folks here.

Welcome aboard Fairlane62!
Yeah, the gasket change isn't too difficult.
My recommendation would be to fix the 89's engine & have it to ride. Meanwhile, research & gather parts for the engine swap if that's something you really want to get into & determine its viability/cost effectiveness.
If you do the engine swap, you'll have to swap to the F2/F3 wiring harness & adapt it to the 89's components.
As said, a mod write-up would be great...if you get to that point.

Thanks
Sorry for the late response, I am traveling and have limited computer access. Thanks for the responses. I didn't see any threads on head gasket change, so I will download the manual so I can see what needs to be done with the cam chain during the head removal process to assure that I maintain cam timing.
