I just bought a 1998 CBR 900rr for $2700 today. I've only ridden it about 5 mins in the 25* weather for a test drive and it is fast. lol. I've never owned my own bike but have been riding my brothers 2007 gsxr 600. For this bike being 12 years old, it has been well taked care of and has plenty of life left.
Anyways, I do have a few questions about the bike. I can't seem to get the driver seat off and is there a helmet latch built onto the bike anywhere? I couldn't find a key switch to unlock the seat. If anyone could help, that would be great!! I'll post some pics soon. It was dirty when I bought it so once she gets cleaned up nice, I'll snap some pics! Thanks in advance for the help.

How many miles? the 900cc honda sport bikes are GREAT bikes. Because it is your first bike just take it easy untill you develop the riding skills you need, i recommend a motorcycle safety course. And always wear FULL gear. at the very least helment, jacket, and gloves. Alot of ppl here are going to tell you, you shouldv'e started out on a smaller sportbike because you will learn much faster on it. I agree with that but if you have a good head on your shoulders and learn before you do anything stupid ei wheelie you will be ok. ENJOY and congrats

It is a big bike but I have grown up around bikes my entire life. My dad owned an nice Harley when I was a kid and was always going on rides with him. Started racing motocross when I was 8years old and stopped about 2 years ago. My brothers gixxer 600 was pretty much mine since I always rode it and he had another bike as well. We took many road trips from Michigan to Tennessee on the bikes. He also had a 2006 CBR 600. Very nice bike. After 3 years of riding the 600, I felt I could upgrade to a 900. If I don't think it is for me, I will downsize to either a 750 bike or a 600 again. I always wore helmets, gloves, and textile jackets, and small knee pads under my jeans. Messed my knee up a few times in moto-x and don't want to further injure my knee.
As for the bike, it has 12,128 miles on it. The tail fairing is cracked on the lower left side and the front is cracked on the lower part below the headlight.

Thanks! It's an awesome bike so far. I just took off the front fairing to install some LED flush mount signals. All that's left is some mirrors which will be bought pretty soon. I'm prolly going to buy a tinted windhshield for it as well. I don't care for the stock clear one
Here is the bike exactly how I bought it. The bike is still dirty, just waiting for a nicer day to clean it up nice. Let me know what ya think!!

Hi & welcome to CBRF!
Congrats on getting the 900RR, always luved that year & paint scheme
Thanx for posting the pics.
By the looks of it, the bike was stunted by way of 12 o'clock bar and shorty exhaust.
That'll also explain the cracked fairings & tailsection I think
Overall the bike still looks pretty good,it'll clean up nice.
CHeck out the 900RR forum if you have any questions about your bike, lots of helpful guys there.
Have fun & enjoy the forum
