Hi all
New to the forum and I got an issue I need help with. I have a 2004 CBR125 and the ignition all turns on fine but nothing from the starter button what so ever, however if I bridge the terminals on the starter relay it will turn over fine. Has anyone got any suggestions on the issue as I only really have basic knowledge and hopefully something I could do at home before I put it in the garage.
I'd always start by checking the basics - battery voltage and fuses. Use a multimeter
After that, you should test the switch. Normally you'd use the wiring diagram to locate a convenient place to unplug the switch without having to take the thing apart. A plug to the main harness works fine. Unplug it and check continuity by holding the multimeter probes onto the metal tabs that correspond to the start button. As you push the button, you should see continuity. If so, it's working. If it seems flaky, or if it shows a lot of resistance even with the button held down, you might be looking at a bad switch or damaged wires
Repeat the process for the sidestand switch and neutral switch if equipped. Both are common culprits as their location under the bike is vulnerable to getting kicked or damaged in a drop.
The clutch lever switch is also a potential issue. It's up on the bars and is usually just a cheap push-button switch underneath the clutch lever
Without a wiring diagram it's hard to say. But I do know with experience that the Honda Start buttons are notorious for going bad. Their contacts get dirty inside, and often the solder joint holding the wire on will often break. I've never seen the model you're speaking about, but if it's like most, you can take it apart and either clean the contacts or re-solder the wire if it's broken. The wire broke right of it's pad. The probe is holding the wire up above the pad (silver round thing below it).
