Bought a '96 CBR 600 F3 Smokin Joe's Edition
So finally after debating between an F3, F4, F4i and R6, I landed myself an awesome deal on a 1996 CBR 600 F3 Smokin Joe's edition. Fell in love with the bike the minute I saw it and my feelings were confirmed when I got a test ride.
Will put up some pictures soon...
Now to the important question....how to go about selecting the right gear - helmet, gloves, jacket, boots, etc? Especially when it comes to helmets,is any Snell and Dot approved helmet good or are there different ranges?

Sounds like a sweet bike! Definitely post some pics when you get the chance. I'm not very educated on different ratings, but I'm sure someone will know. I do know that in order for a helmet to get Snell approval, they put it through a lot of testing and stuff like that. I just made sure mine was Snell approved (friends suggestions) and went with ICON because they fit me the best/and also look great. I would just go with what fits you best and what you can afford. My ICON helmet is Snell Approved and I love it. As far as gear just go with something that provides a good level of protection. Personally, I don't think leathers are necessary especially when it gets hot out. I just have textile gear with all the pads built in, my jacket has a nice removable liner so its cool on the hot days yet can keep me pretty warm on a cool night. Had a buddy hit a deer going about 50mph and slid for about 60 yards in the same gear I have and he was fine, just a few bumps and bruises. I would find some good solid riding boots that cover your ankles well, but are also comfortable for walking around. As far as gloves I have yet to pick up a good pair. But plan to get of the longer ones that cover my wrists well. Just my two cents, hope that all made sense and helped out some.

Definitely post up some pics of that bike when you can, one of my favs...
As far as gear goes most of the gear you can buy today is really good just go by personal preference really.
For me Alpinestars, AGV/Sport, Spidi. Only a few Icon products, most of their stuff seems built kinda cheaply and overpriced to me.
