Default Barn Find CBR 900 RR 1998

Yes, this bike was acctually found in a barn in Upstate NY, Utica. I think I got a good deal. It needs some work, I'm already about half way stated. I had to Move my Kawasaki ZX1100 to my Wife's side of the garage to get room to work on the CBR. The Bike has been sitting from 2003. A drug user owned it, he ODed. So I bought it off the next of kin. The #2 and #3 spark plug sockets are stripped (the bike still started) I just had the sleaves replaced Bought all new gaskets and hoses during local halloween sale. The Airbox was filled with peanut shells from a generation or two of mice living in it. The bike is covered in Dirt. The filth was caked on . The engine might be stained for life. Anyone have any majic cleaning tips (I tried every cleaner on the engine and it is still a dull grease color in front)

Well looking forward to reassembly after the clean up and repairs. Hoping to keep the budget under $2500 (price of purchase included). Not sure what it would sell for in good shape, 20,000 miles scrapes on both engine covers and tail . Everything works, it just needs care. Can't believe that motorcycles get abused like this. Someone should start a organization to save them. : )

Catch you later Honda guys.
I'm going to have to buy an extra set of leathers, I only own team green pants and jacket for the track.

Thats a great find, you dont get many like that. As for the engine clean, I use diluted acid which you scrub on and power wash off. It is more commonly used on our trucks fuel tanks which are made from allumillium. Hope this helps

Default Value of CBR 900 RR 1998 20kmiles

I am working on my budget for this project bike. Originally I started with a personal limit of $2,500 thinking that is the most I would spend on a bike of that year and milage. I see on ebay that bikes in good working order and well kept sell for $3000 to $4000 with 16,000 to 24,000 miles. Is this the going price for a good bike from honda?

Currently I have dropped the engine off at the dealership. I have the head off so they talked me into a valve adjustment , new head gasket, manifold gasket, plugs and manifold bolt washers. This is going to run me about $4-500 with about 3+ hrs labor at $70/hr. The cylinder heads and have been cleaned of carbon. So with new brake pads and new tires. I'll probably go over my budjet to about $2,800. With this type of new service will it be worth the $2,800 or am I putting too much into a old bike? (which still has some road rash on the engine covers and tail section)

I have already replaced all the hoses and water system O rings, one is acctually D shaped. Still working on grime clean up of frame and engine. Man my fingers are begining to feel it.

Hope that you get it how you want it to turn out, but if atall possible then I would have been inclined to do most of the work myself, I hate paying dealers prices, there a real killer.

Default Stock Jets

I hear ya man. It took me awhile to give into their suggestions. My torque wrentch broke last month on my ZX11. I should have just bought another vs having the dealer do the work, but I am going to france next week so I figured it would be nice get it together before I come back. I'm amazed that people go to them for brakes and stuff. They charge too much and never do any beyond the simple work. I'm working on the carbs and swing arm tonight. I'm trying to figure out if there is a jet ket in it that matches the two brothers exhaust. Anyone have a picture of the stock jets? Or know any markings that describe if is stock?
