ADVICE: Soon to be new CBR owner
Greetings all!!
I am so excited to finally register. I am FINALLY in the market for a CBR (preferably a 929rr, 954rr or 1000rr). I have gotten close to a bunch of 929s and 1 954. Today I ran across a CBR 1000rr but I need some advice on it really bad.
Oh yeah! About me:
I have ridden 600s in my early 20s and that is about it. I think I am pretty good but I am no racer just a cruiser. Had to get rid of my bike before I got married but now I got the green light to get another one (WHOO HOO!).
So with that being said i have a budget of up to $5200 on a USED bike.
Today this is what I saw and looked at: (i have pix if anyone is interested)
GOOD:
2004 Honda CBR 1000RR - BLACK
Full EXHAUST (BMATA or something like that) SICK SOUND
Nice tires (I guess)
+2up -1down (sales main said it had that RACE config. I said UH OH)
What looked to be a GPS or Fuzzbuster (the sales man had no idea)
Lowered about 2"
Corbin Seat
Transparent Stator (neat)
Frame Sliders
BAD:
Right lower Faring scratched as it looks to been laid down
Scratches on GAS TANK
seat in rear is not lined up with rest
DULL PAINT but looks good
45,000 miles!!!!!! (prob because of sprockets of just RACED)
NO WARRANTY - AS IS. No tune up its on you!
Asking price $5899!!!!!! WHAT!!!
This was at a Harley Davison Dealership. They dont care about sportbikes. They just want to get rid of the trade.
I told him, that it was too much and he asked what I would like to offer.
So I called the local Honda Dealer and told them about it. This is what they said:
1. Premium Tuneup - $225
2. Replaced Farings - $600+ (installed)
3. Add a some type of warranty - $350
What do you guys think? Stay away and keep looking?
Harley Davison is trying to get rid of it.
I was going to offer $4500 but it maybe a risk since there is no warranty or anything. I told him I need to check on some things and would get back to him.
Please help.
Thanks!!

It's a Harley dealer???
I think it'd be better to buy from someone that knows a good bike/ loves a good bike??
With your budget, I'd guess you'll have a wide range of choices, take your time and find a good bike. I'm not saying this bike is no good, but at that price there are probably plenty out there to choose from.
As the old saying goes, 'buy in haste, repent at leisure'.

I'd steer away from a bike with already 45k miles on it unless you get a super deal. Are you being financed or paying all cash. If you are not being financed, I'd suggest looking on craigslist. You can get a much better deal from a personal sell rather than going through a dealer, but be careful and look the bike over very carefully.

But get this, I went to my insurance company (State Farm), my insurance on this bike will be $100 a month!!! I was floored!!!
Does anyone have expensive bike insurance too? Or is it just because it is a 1000cc?
