hey guys I recently got my motorcycle license and bough a 1983 Yamaha virago 500 as a starter bike and had plans of waiting till the winter season to find a newer better bike but I come along a guy who wants to sell his 06 CBR 600 F4I for $4000 and I wanted to see what everyone thinks about it. He said that he just put brand new tires on it and it has 5000miles on it. The part that I am uneasy about is he said he has lost the key so i could buy the bike at 4k and take the ingestion out and get a key made myself or he will get a key made but then would sell the bike for 4.5k and i have a guy who will take the ignition out for me for about 50 bucks and a called a local shop and they will make the key for about another 50 bucks so doing it myself seems like they way to go but i worry about buying a bike that I cant see run until after I buy it and put work into it. What are you opinions?
Is this "guy" somebody you know? Bike with no key raises serious questions in my mind. Get serial number and find a LEO to run it. The price is decent if the bike is minty fresh with only 5k miles. Decent ... not a steal, not a rip off ...
If he's the original owner, ask him "Where's the code?". If he looks at you blankly, pass.
I have an 06 F4i. The original owner I bought her from lost the spare key but still had the key code tag. With that code a Honda dealership can cut a key with no problem

So that is what that little tag is for, I have always wondered. Learn something everyday.
Prolly if they lost the keys then they lost the tags. I would suspect that if you have the title and a driver's license with matching names/address then a Honda dealer could look up the code and issue you a key for $100 or so.
Still, not sure how you can even consider buying a bike that you haven't ridden or even heard running.

Sounds like too much pressure to me. I'd recommend taking a pass. The price is
good (not great), there are lots of fish in the sea though. Ride your virago, get your
rookie all rubbed off and look for a new bike next season. Never be in a hurry buying a bike. Lost key also means new gas-cap and helmet/seat lock too, btw.
