Hello MasterBry, that's some story. You've got some cojones that's for sure. Persistence & determination are two good traits to have in life. Good to hear the bike didn't let you down either, sounds like you've got yourself a keeper; congratulations. Sort of a trial by fire (or ice in your instance, lol). You've come to the right place, lots of knowledgeable riders here.
