Default 1988 CBR1000F project - new here

Hello,

I just picked up an 88 cbr1000f that has been sitting in a garage for 7 and a half years. I've owned two other cbr's, both 600's, one an F1 and the other an F2. I've always liked the ride of the cbr but I'd like to take some weekend road trips and what not. I've read alot of great things about these old girls, so I'm gonna give it a shot. I was told that it ran great when it was parked, just got put away as the kids were born. I drained the oil, looks good, but defintely has fuel that has leaked past the rings in it. Plan on putting new oil and fuel in her, a new battery, and giving it a try. I'll at least have an idea what I'm looking at. I look forward to learning some tips and info, and I will gladly post anything interesting I run into as well as share what I learn as I get her back on the road.

Shady (will post pics of her soon)

welcome to cbrf! 7 1/2 years is a long time, so flush all the fluids (radiator too). it'll probably need a new battery as well. hopefully it still runs great after you do so! don't forget to check out the hurricane section!

Plastics are 24 years old, but not destroyed. Haven't decided if they are all going back on yet, but I am sure that I'm going to be doing some painting! I'll start thinking of that after I see if I get lucky with the engine... lol

Welcome!
Clean those carbs. They are assuredly plugged up. Change all the fluids and REPLACE THE TIRES. Even if they have good tread, old rotting rubber is hard and slippery. I see you've found the 1000f section. Everything you ever wanted to know about your bike, and some stuff you don't, is all right there. Open up a cold one and have a good read...

Welcome to the CBR Forum Shady,

Alweays good to have another CBR1000F member - we may yet try for a clean sweep of a year of CBR1000F Ride of The Month (ROTM) winners

See https://cbrforum.com/forum/cbr-month...ead%2A-143394/

As Indy so succinctly put it, post photos when you can. Ask any questions you need but keep your fingers away from the Kiwi's when they're feeding

Cheers, SB
