Phoned my friend who has a bit of a car dealing hobby.

He's got:

1997 black ragtop Alfa GTV spider twinspark (916 lusso)

...and he's willing to take the volvo in the trade. He'd want a couple thou in between but is also willing to work out a pay plan.

Tempting... that car I KNOW to be in good shape. He bought it for himself but got a Mazda mx-5 "miata" in a trade and liked that better.

The alfa could get me through the whole winter no prob. Comes with two wheels.

Can't right now, might go till sunday. Might go AT sunday too. It's not officially for sale anywhere. Has an upgraded sound system, two wheel sets on alloys, 2 month old MOT stamp etc. No idea where to get that middle money but will think of something. IMO better to invest when buying than to parts, same money less hassle.

Ok, Mattson.

A word of caution here too.

As a former card carrying Alfista, I can tell you that a Spyder Lusso will probably be less reliable and more expensive to maintain than a lemon Volvo.

That being said. It's an Alfa Romeo and will thrill you.

when they're bad they're bad and when they're good, they are soooooo bad.

the grille badge is worth the price of admission

Don't think he was talking it down. I won't either.

Be prepared for for the best, but most expensive car to drive, you'll ever own.

I love Alfas. Always have and always will. Unfortunately, the era that I love and owned were made from Yugoslavian steel from the Soviet era. It possesed such an iron oxide content that the poor things were rusting from inside.

Now they're rare and expensive, if you find a good one

One of my workmates made an interesting (but probably true) comment a few months ago when I was vaguely tempted by an older Beemer for my wife.

"If you can't afford a new European car, you certainly can't afford to run a secondhand European car".

Oh so true... No deal on the Alfa, the price difference is just too high... can't cough uo 3k. Or gould but won't.

Back to the nettiauto, just nothing interesting there, a few barchettas,, a chevy allante and thousand escorts i n the convertible section... also half a million besgh bugs with half a million in the clock and another in the prive tag... gotta find something, and gotta be somthing outlandish... call me an idiot I don't care but still haven't completely buried the beetle-corvette either...

Numerous typos thanks to my phone's backspace button acting up...
