So. Stop or not stop?

So this is just one almighty f*ck-up. No not when you think ( about 11 secs in) but watch and enjoy the mayhem from 1:07 to 1:15.............only 8 seconds but so much fun happens in so short a time :(

Would you have stopped to help the biker that dropped his bike in the road?

Personally no.

Though the OP was criticised and vilified for not stopping though he made it clear that there were 50+ spectators to the incident.

Faced with such idiocy I would and shall ride on. What do you think??

BaronIsle 04-13-2012 03:48 AM

I'd have pulled over out of courtesy to see if all was ok...

50 plus spectators? where?
Bloody car at the outset!

I've been a passenger in a car with a Doctor when we happened upon a biker in the road... she said there was no point in stopping as 'he has clearly broken his neck'.
I've been in a shop when an old man collapsed with a suspected heart attack and when I approached the Doctor I knew -a neighbour- he said 'he didn't want to get involved'.

Is it the done thing to turn a blind eye? Suppose so...

Is that even a question?? Idk maybe its a southern thing but bikers down here stop no matter what. I dont care if I see I guy on the side of the interstate standing by his bike I will stop and make sure everythings good or see if he needs help in any way. I would have def. stopped to check on everyone...

Couldn't agree more -
It's something we drum into our youngsters here - no matter whether there are "outsiders" ie non- bikers around YOU WILL STOP NO MATTER WHAT and render assistance to the best of your ability.

maybe its a southern thing

Nope, common decency and the brotherhood of the road.
cgrace986 - I'd ride with you anytime.

As for doctors who won't help - they should be struck off the register. I wonder how they would react if it was a member of their family ???
Disgraceful IMHO.

Sorry if I'm coming across a bit strong but we lose numbers of bikers here every year. The best friends you have are another biker with a mobile phone, and the paramedics. Forget the "lookie looks" - a waste of time - most of them are just there for the blood anyway.:icon_viking:

If incident happened to you, would you want OP to stop and help you? Don't assume....act and react...

Unless it's a hazard to yourself if stopping...otherwise why not.

My favorite riding areas tend to have many riders on the weekends. If someone goes down, is having trouble on the side of the road, etc, the *code* requires you to stop & render assistance, etc. Golden Rule or your own version of it, def applies.

Sprock 04-13-2012 02:37 PM

ME :

Always , park bike out of the way of emergency services in case they are called for
and get my arse over there to assist in anyway possible.

It's what I'd expect in a roles reversed scenario.

But these days ........ ya know how it goes ....... people might be more inclined to
step over ya with a mobil phone stuck to their ear than assist.

As for this video here in the thread

Yeah I'd pull up and make sure he was

#1 Not seriously injured
#2 was not about to get run over by following traffic ,
so I'd get him and his bike off the roadway or there might be
worse to come !

People will always do dumb stuff (me included) - that's not an
excuse not to render aid when needed.

boru 04-13-2012 04:10 PM

stop and check the rider is OK!!!
you might just save a life!
it might be YOU some day.
and YOU would be glad I stopped to check.

Incompatible 04-13-2012 04:21 PM

Stop and check on rider condition. Have someone to slow traffic down until the bike is off the road, check on rider again. To often someone is injured worse then they realize initially, adrenalin does that. Stick around for at least 10 to 15 minutes to see how the rider reacts before they get back on the bike. As the others have said, that's what I would want if the roles were reversed.

davethepom 04-14-2012 06:32 AM

F##K YES, I'd have stopped! If there were enough people at the actual crash site then the next corner either way is a good spot to wave others to slow down because the sh!t's hit the fan for someone.

There's no excuse (IMO) for the other rider not stopping to help.
