Default "Ring flutter"

Let's see how many of you have had one on a bike..........

I had one today.

Here in Africa one often sees flattened plastic cold drink containers on the road - people throw them out of taxi's etc and they end up flat on the road.
I went into town this morning and saw that a traffic light was changing, so I braked, not that hard, well, guess who braked right on a flat plastic cold drink container under the front tyre..................how the front end stayed up I don't know, but it felt like I skidded about 300 metres, but was probably only about 4 or 5 feet.
Like a bloody skating rink. Scared me wet I swear.

Definite ring flutter

Anyone else had anything similar ?

Can't say I have had that happen to me.

The closest thing was when the front wheel locked up at the gas station when I hit a patch on wet clay. A lite touched to rear break and the front wheel slid off to the left and down she went, damn LBS.

I suppose if those flattened bottles are sitting in turns, things could get bad real quick.

Well I had a bit of that this week as you know Pete .....lol

Closest I ever came to something like that was hitting a lump of frozen horse shyte
up on the backroads here .... gave me auld ring flutters too but grassy gravel
and a wide ditch on the far side of the road saved the day

oh and BTW

A Very Happy & Prosperous New Year to everyone.

Cheers

Most of the relatively unpatrolled roads around here are so crap that "ring flutter" is around every corner. Potholes, loose gravel etc. are common.

There must be a lot of crap on the roads for you to not take notice of what you're on when you hit the anchors.

I was watching the traffic and the traffic lights, Dave. The bloody flat bottle was about 6" x 3" and yes. I didn't see the potential for disaster. It didn't skid right away, but I was braking when I hit it which is when the trouble started.... Live and learn, eh ?

At least we don't have dead roo's to worry about..................

Very true TK! Death certainly doesn't stop their efforts to wipe us out, especially when they've been spread out by a semi first! It's hard to miss 50+kg of meat when it's in chunks all over the road.. If you're really lucky you can encounter the fox or feral dog having a snack and can get that bit extra challenge.

Once (in the car fortunately!!) I was surprised by a Wedge Tailed Eagle taking off from some road kill as I drove past. The bloody thing just about blocked out the sun, it was so big! On the bike I probably would have lost it.

Still, it all stops you nodding off on the way to work I suppose.

Happened to me once on the rear tire. leaving a bar, yes alchohol was involved, I was going to slide the rear, shoot off the curb and wheely to the intersection. Good plan but the rear locked up on a very large wad of very wet bar napkins, /serviets. Well slide I did sideways in slow motion for about six to eight feet right in to a parking meter which flattened my right exhaust pipe.

Just hitting Mr Bunny Wabbit mid corner on an early morning ride. Not too dramatic, though it felt it at the time.

I did pinch a crease in the seat cover with the cheeks of my ****

Y'all should see if you can borrow an H2 off someone.

They'll do it every time, even when you're going in an apparently straight line.
