Pod filters ?

Hey, I was looking for a little bit more power from my 87' cane. I was curious if anyone has put K&N pod filters on their bike? And also if the carbs needed to be re-jetted afterwards. I'm sort of hoping for a part number or atleast some detailed measurements. thanks alot in advance

As I understand it they don't like pod filters due to the enclosed nature of the fairing. Air flow would be uneven to the middle pods and I think the heat in the middle upsets things too...unless yours is a streetfighter with no plastic. A better option is to keep your airbox and buy a K&N filter for it. I've got one in mine and did re-jet as I put a V&H 4 into one on at the same time. I think you'd be running lean if you didn't re-jet and it's not worth the risk. Can't help with part number as mine's a '94. Hope this helps. Do a search in the main part of the forum and you'll find out heaps more, that's just what I remember.

Allen, I know you are doing a street fighter mate ....but very few here get into that type of non stock setup...
As Dave said , they are very sensitive to allot of mods especially air intake...

I cant help you :icon_shrug: , but if you wait a while someone will prolly give you a few clues .. What I can say is that if you do not get it right , you will have issues to deal with mate ..

Until you get the correct setup I would leave her stock if you are riding her that is ...?

You want more power ? sheesh , where are you going to use more power than these have already ?

Yu not gunna tell me that you twist a 1000F's throttle hard and fast right to the stop!! using the whole rev range to its fullest and your bike is running out of power before either your skills , your guts , your common sense, or the road does ??:icon_doh:
hmmmm ? pm curious mate ...

Go down to a 16 tooth front sprocket/ 44 rear, or both.
That'll wake you up for sure !
Leave the airbox ALONE.

The K&N idea was for power and aesthetics, this bike is going to be naked by the end of the week (waiting on parts). The air box is pretty darned ugly without those side fairings. And It's probably the common sense one CBRclassic lol, I'm one of those people who can never leave well enogh alone. Also i live in the middle of saskatchewan, nothing but straight roads for about 250km in any direction.
Does anyone have any idea's of making the airbox a little more pleasing to the eye without fairings? I'm sure the k&N drop in filter would make me happy enough untill i get something sorted.

This might give you a couple of ideas.

Allen, how about making / getting made some polished alloy covers for the air box? You could cover all the bits you can see with nice bling and still keep her running sweet with a drop in K&N. Just a thought.. I like the look of pods too and have fitted them to a couple of kwakas in the past, but this bike runs sweet with the drop in and a DynoJet kit, although I ditched the springs 'cos the slides went up too fast and left a massive lag when I cracked the throttle open hard.

well, for now, I've done the same as the naked bike that hawkwind posted up. But i dont think it'll keep me happy for very long. The airbox takes up alot of prime space that i could be using for hiding all of the bits and pieces that usually hide between the plastics and the frame.
