Geez, guys, that all sucks....
Rob, do you think the high rev could just be a sticking throttle cable? I've had this problem twice. Once was after I did an engine swap (my own fault for where I routed the cable), and one was just a sticky butterfly.
As far as the a-hole firestarter, I've had to deal with one of them too. Guy by himself decided to burn off his field in the dead of summer. Got way outta control and I ended up calling in a brush crew. Burnt part of my dad's woods behind the house by the time we all got it out. That guy was a *****, too. Acted like I was the a-hole for calling it in. Luckily we had a river right there to draw from. It took 2 brush crews to stop it....

Oh, ok Rob.... I forgot it was auto trans related.... my bad
I've had a couple fords that had trans problems. One I thought I fixed (governer), only to have it come back like 2 weeks later. I got so pissed off that I punched the steering wheel.
Bad idea, because all punching the wheel did was made the horn stick on. (right through the middle of town, too!! )
So now I have a slipping trans AND a full blast horn! LOL..
I pulled over and ripped the horn off the steering wheel and tore out the wires to shut it up. What a POS that car was!

It's always most irritating when the accident isn't even your fault. Crappy timing on Christmas eve, too.
I've come to enjoy having reliable wheels. Including my Hurricane, which has always been good to go and never let me down. Although when I was on a one week road trip a few months back and the temperature in the morning when I was going to go for breakfast was about -5 C. She realllllllllllly didn't want to start.
