Default Mpg question cbr 1000f 1995 model

Guys my bike cbr1000f is a 95 model with 18000 genuine miles. I am seeing just 21 miles to the gallen on 1st attempt. I just bought this bike few weeks ago . Of road at the minute waiting on a braded clutch line coming as the old one believe it or not had black insulation tape wrapped around where it was split I found out to my cost when I was out on it and it burst . What could be checked or replaced to get the mpg up a bit or what mpg are you guys getting . Thanks guys

I get about 48mpg normal riding. In the twisties maybe 35mpg.

If it were me, I'd check the valve clearance first. You may have some tight exhaust valves.

Thanks guys I pulled the plugs out last week after the first run and they where fine tan in color. Now today as I can't use bike with no clutch hose I started her up let he tick over while checking for any petrol drips from under carbs no a drop so any way after ticking over for good 15 minutes pulled plugs out check again now they are sooty not bad but sooty with engine ticking over . I guess it's running rich on tick over then . Does this mean carbs out ?. Or maybe air filter to double check it as I did have it out but looked OK but then again might be worth replacing .

Choke is working normal checked all the linkages there thanks for the advice on the choke. I am going to buy new air filter as I don't know how old this one in bike is and can't see inside it clearly to see how bad it is so it may be clogged .

cbrjohn, just noticed this slightly old thread but I'm interested in whether your "old" air filter was obviously dirty. I have a 1991 CBR1000F with 18000 and I'm looking for reasons why my mpg is a little on the low side at around 37mpg. My air filter after only 18000 looks pretty much like new. How was your's when you replaced it?
