Ha ha.. that's a dam good reason to drop off the TL. I think the general concensus on slamming headfirst into bovine is....not favorable.
Thise buells are interesting creatures. I'd like to spin one, for sure.
Have you thought about the ZX-10R? You might like that. It's quite the flickable little powerhouse. A guy I used to ride with had one.

ZX-10R and others
Sir Trout, I thought about the ZX-10R, but it is a little radical on the ergos. Like the TL is. That ZX-10R is a midrange animal and it is faster than a two toed sloth in heat.... I will go look at it on my next trip this weekend (saturday).
Hey, has anyone tried the Triumph Thruxton? I had a guy pull up to me, on a Thruxton, at the Suzuki dealer today. He liked it and was only at the shop to help his buddy get a 1000 Gixxer. Back in 2005, I had a Thruxton (I can spot most bikes at a glance, my fever in life I guess) pass me on the road to Lake Berryessa in Napa County, CA. The dude cooked me! Of course, I was riding two up as he was, but my bike was a 1903 technology Harley FXR-P....
What do you Brits know about that Thruxton??? The Triumph dealer in this area has one.

I'm not really sure about the ZX-10R really... I couldn't imagine picking one over say....the new 1000RR.
I ride with a guy that has a ZX-9R, and his bud has the 10R. They are quick bikes, no doubt, but it seems like either of them was always having problems. My bud had clutch problems and throttle problems, etc., and I know his friend with the 10R missed a ride once with some sort of problem. I know stuff happens, but it seemed strange to me since they were both practically new bikes. It may have just been a fluke. I don't really recall hearing of a lot of reliability issues. Who knows.
Thruxton?? I thought you were looking for a sporty bike?
(Does it come with cool goggles? If it does, I would put it in the "possible" category...)
My guess is that you nailed it on the head when you said:
I got cooked by a yugo once on my Honda Mini Trail 50...
I must admit that the Triumph is neat looking, though. I also read that the new Thruxton has a bit more power than the older new ones.
Speaking of Triumphs, I saw one for sale at bike night the other night. I was checking it out, and the owner came up to talk to me. The bike was cheap, and a little beat, but it had 67,000 miles on it! (and it was a 2002, I think...a trophy maybe?) Somebody was running it pretty good.

RC51, RSV1000R, Thruxton
I found a cool looking old Magna V65. Here is a picture (wants $2500, but will go lower, said he put $7000 into it). Could run some Harleys off the road with this puppy! But then again, so can the neighbor's tricycle! Finishing touch would be a front fender!
The RC51, RSV1000R is just another TL1000 to me because I can not use it to its full limit. Chicken strips are chicken!
Sawnee, I got a chubby looking at and listening to that Thruxton. It would be like no other bike that I have. So, there would be no reason to get rid of one of the others since it would not duplicate one of the other "garage puppies." If I want to go fast = CBR-F, twisties and wheelies = TL1000, Long haul R1100RS, Going to the Bucket of Blood Saloon would = Thruxton (some twisties and some cruising).
I have got to go see that Thruxton this Saturday!!! MSRP for 2009 is $8599, great price! Good read about Thruxton http://www.motorbikestoday.com/revie...i_thruxton.htm
P.S. This dealer hits Craig's list a lot. See any CBRs you like??? http://www.jmmotorsportsllc.com/
P.S.S. BTW Sir Trout, my lineage comes from where the Yugo was built... Just wait until the next corner and you will pass that Yugo broken down!!!

I've always liked the magnas... If I were to get that type of bike, I would probably look for a magna. I remember a guy that used to live next to me when I had an apartment. He had a big 'ol Magna. It was bright yellow with a shltload of chrome. Sharp lookin' bike, and I don't even like yellow that much.

Narrowed it to 3 bikes
OK, I sat on the Thruxton today. Black with a stripe down the center (is it a Skunkston?).... The bike fits me very well. I am now into the bargaining phase. Harley wants $8900 for a Buell XB12R used (3,000 miles only). Suzuki wants $8800 plus fees for a left over 08 Bandit 1250cc. Triumph wants $8500 Out the Door for a left over 08 Black beauty Thruxton with a fly sceen on front.
The Buell has hydraulic lifters so never a valve adjustment, belt drive with an automatic belt adjuster called an idler wheel (no chain oil discussion needed), and it has 103 hp with 84 ft lbs of torque with air/oil cooled motor.
The Bandit is chain drive and needs valve adjustments. Water cooled and has about 100 hp with 70 ft lbs of torque with antilock brakes.
The Thruxton has 69 hp with about 54 ft lbs of torque with spoked wheels and is air/oil cooled.
I am leaning towards the Thruxton so if you have any input about these bikes let me know... Thanks.
