Default The Maxton Mile 1995-2011

Hey:

Well another sad time has come for Land Speed Record racers in the South East, as the LSR track known as the Maxton mile in Laurinburg, NC has officially gone into the archives as no more meets will ever occur there. This is one of many race facility closures that has happened to the little racer looking for an affordable, legal, and cheap fix for his adrenalin needs.
All East Coast Timing Association meets will now take place in Wilmington,Ohio so let the 2012 schedule begin with April 28-29 Hot Rod Magazine Top Speed Challenge. I hope we can find another host someday back in NC or SC that will not be as affected by weather as the meets in Ohio may be.
I know it will greatly impact me as I do not have the time to pursue that form of racing outside of here due to my work schedule. Good luck to all the racers at the Apr and Sep meets there.

Hey:

It is not a sponsor thing, the strip has been redesignated for a different use. So the airfield is no longer an option for the ECTA folks. The Association moved it all to Wilmington, Ohio.
They should get some good support from the place there as they want to host them. The Association put tons of work in at Maxton to get it up to the level it was at for the owners to offer a much improved location for other uses without giving them any say. Since they were only a volunteer org and did all the work on the strip, bringing it up to the level it is, and since they got no say to what happens on it, they parted ways. IMHO It was just about profit and greed with the Association left feeling a little used, but they held the upper ground and just moved on. Donating the facities to other groups in the local area that needed them. A class act. If you want some further info/ reading check out East Coast Timing Association on the net.
