Sometimes,

I reminicsce about the old hey days of the Hurricane chapter of this forum. Especially, the Saloon. Back when a streak of old Hurrcanes won the ROTM. We were large. We were a voting bloc. We were middle age ****ers with more days behind us than in front of us. Anyone's problem was everyone's problem. We helped each other. Together, we found the fix. No matter where in the world, we stuck together. We rode together

We still ride and still love to do it on these aging old bikes. I know I do.

But time has passed and as all things do. We've drifted.

Don't think for a moment I have forgotten you. Any of you.

When I wathched that documentary about Lemmy, I think of you. When I hear an old Gealic folk song, I think of you. When I watch The Worlds Fastest Indian, I think of you. When I look at that boxed up old Corbin saddle that I promised to send to Oz a year and a half ago, I think of you. When Auburn wins a football game, I think of you. When I ride past a nuke cooling tower I think of you. I'm sorry, I can't think of any reminder of Tasmania, but yes, I think of you

When I'm on a tasty bit of road, I often think, Damn if I only hit the lotto, you'd all be riding this tasty bit of road with me.

But in spirit, you always have. Haven't you

...and always will

Cheers,

Wooferdog

Well put Woof.

I well remember the nights here in the Saloon when all the 'bad boys' were full of banter and irreverence, from all over the world. Some of us apparently didn't sleep - Teeks being one of the leading culprits.

Keep up the good fight whilst above ground. I know I will.

Cheers to all you old CBR1000F (Hurricane) riding F*!%ers, SB

Very sage words my friend. Don't be a stranger. Your wit is missed when you aren't here.

Yeah, I remember the 'good old days' as well Woof.

A lot of water has passed under the bridge, but I'm still up on the bridge spitting in the water

A lot of people have come and gone, some have drifted off to ride other bikes, some are sadly departed.

But we've still got some good guys around

Sadly all the specialist forums are fizzling out, people now prefer Faceboast.

Hawk says "A lot of people have come and gone, some have drifted off to ride other bikes, some are sadly departed."

Too true Hawk, where's Sprock and Shadow? Matty's got into his building special bikes more I guess.

Naga Thai still contributes - in his carefully thought out, informative manner! G'Day Naga....
DRam? HenryM? Wheelnut? Ruaphu?

I haven't ridden my CBR1000F in a while now (but riding other bikes a lot), but will always value this forum for the information learned and most-of-all, the friendship, fun and camaraderie of the Saloon Inmates.

Goodness me, after 30 plus years out of 'meatspace' car clubs, I now find myself a member of an Historic Motorcycle Club in the Valley. WTF? The reason is I needed to be a member to get 'historic registration' for the BMW sidecar but still.............

Cheers, SB

I check the forum almost daily theres just not really anything for me to post about. Mine is running great and not in any need of anything. When I do run into a question I almost always find my answer doing a search.
The more these bikes age the more of them get tossed away it seems. Most the oem cosmetic and other parts are no longer available from Honda, and the aftermarket is very slim. I dont do facebook so here is all I got. I hope this forum stays around forever, even if it seems slow at times

For what it's worth, I don't think the diy crowd is going anywhere, and the forums are a way better technical source than social media will ever be. I don't know how many times I've had a vehicle with some weird problem and some ancient forum post from an obscure board has been the rescue

I roam a few, and this is definitely one of the most tight-knit groups. I mean the closest thing to a flame war here was the bottles being thrown about the saloon a while back, or maybe the red vs silver color war, but all in all, it's a friendly group. The mods have done a really good job kicking out the spammers, scammers, and ne'er do wells. It helps that we all share a hobby, and that Honda makes such damn good bikes

Compared to some of the really toxic places out there, this is a nice piece of internet

It's slowed down a bit, and there's fewer and fewer hurricanes on the road these days, but I'll bet there's some guest login from a kid who's just bought his first bike, and google sent him here, and this group has just saved him a pile of money at the mechanic. It's a pretty awesome resource

We all owe you old coots a thanks

A well reasoned post tentacleslap - thanks.

And you are so very right. My first interaction with the forum was in 2012 when I found a problematic Mk 2 CBR1000f with 'starter clutch' problems. I had lusted after one of these bikes for many years but they were too costly (already had too many bikes ) The previous owner was quoted well north of $2,000 AUD to split the motor to replace the part.

I found this forum, asked a few questions of the knowledgeable folk and discovered it could be repaired without splitting the cases. I paid the PO about $1200 AUD for the bike when they were selling Downunder - on average - for about $3,500. Bought an $80 part from the USA, and when it arrived spent two short evenings in the shed working on the bike resulting in a fully functioning bike. Great result for such an awesome riding machine.

Cheers, SB

Maybe when the forum was young there were many problems to solve. Perhaps all the problems are solved now and can be searched.

I stop from time to time to look in. I often go to the bottom of the main page to see how many members and guest are on. As I am typing, only 8 members are on the entire forum, seven others and myself. Last week when I checked, only 2 members were on and 650 or so guest. I remember the first time I look there, there were over 3,500 total users.

I don't know why but it seems like the entire wold has dropped out.

I came in because I wanted to give thanks to the members that posted up on how to de-link. Can very close to sending it down the road before I killed myself on it when pushing it hard (I don't ride like that anymore).

Maybe it's me.
I'll take the blame!
Damn you TimBucTwo!!!
