Default I know that no-one likes getting sprung:

For parking where they shouldn't. But let's be honest, a lot of people in cities pay hundreds or perhaps thousands of dollars a year to lease a private car park.

So what happens when an unmarked police car parks in your private park? you just ring it in to the wheel clamping guy, like you would with any other car parked in your spot that you pay for.

In the words of Judge Dread ''I AM THE LAW''

Just because they uphold the law, doesn't mean they're above the law.

The guy wasn't detaining them, they were detaining themselves by withholding payment. I'm sure as soon as he got the money, the car was un-clamped.

If he was operating illegally, or doing anything illegal, I'm sure they would have had him banged-up quicker than a $5 Ho

They did the wrong thing and shouldn't have parked there. No argument here. I would've been able to get out of there though.......Take the clamped wheel off and put on the spare.......just saying.....

A couple years back, I remember walking by a police cruiser that was parked in front of a fire hydrant. There was a meter maid writing him a ticket. I took a picture of it with my old phone, but have since lost it. Doubt it was ever paid, but I wanted to give huge props to the guy who wrote the ticket.

Good tip from Bordo !
Hope I never need to use it, but the clamper guy would then have to pay me to get his property back ! (and wheel clamps aren't that cheap) LOL

Interesting scenario - maybe someone should try it by parking 4 or 5 cars illegally and then see what the clampers would do. If it's attached to your vehicle, then surely it's your property and you can do what you like with it ???

Wheel clampers and meter maids have a thankless job.

Indeed they do, but refer back to my original comment; if you, or your employer pays serious dollars to have a car park available for you; would you not be more than a little p1ssed if someone else just randomly parked in it?

If we follow the New Plymouth Police logic that " what you're doing is unlawful" (as a wheel clamper) we might as well not bother leasing car parks because they're just fair game for everyone.

Sorry doesn't work for me.

I assumed the question was rhetorical.
Clearly it wasn't, soooooooooooooo

Just because they uphold the law, doesn't mean they're above the law

I'd have called a clamper too
At least if it was a police car they'd have to get all dirty changing the wheel before getting back to the donuts and coffee. (Sorry Geoff, doesn't include your lot, OK )
We don't have wheel clampers here - I suspect because the average local would
1 Shoot anyone they believed were stealing their shiny mag wheels
2 There's not much of a market for secondhand wheel clamps

I find it an interesting position that when going off topic slightly, how quickly some people are irritated. Perhaps a lesson in it somewhere

My apologies Shadow if I have upset you. Unfortunately I don't know if the full program video is able to be accessed outside NZ.

This guys troubles started when he originally clamped a policeman's mothers car. They then started a campaign of telling people that his actions were unlawful; small provincial town, everyone brought the police story: the full story starts with him getting beaten up by an elderly woman with her handbag.
3RD DEGREE - Wednesday March 6, 2013 - CURRENT AFFAIRS - ON DEMAND - TV3
Don't know if it will work for outside NZ, but it is interesting to say the least.

No, TK, Maxwell didn't even bare his teeth either

This guys troubles started when he originally clamped a policeman's mothers car

So because she's a policeman's Mum she gets special treatment ????
NOT IN THIS LIFETIME

Would that mean my Mum would merit special consideration because of who I am or what I do for a crust ? NO BLOODY WAY
First off my Mum would never have complained. More likely she'd never have parked in someone else's bay in the first place.

And to answer your question - the last video doesn't play here, although the first one did. Funny part was it was the most senior policeman in the area who was at fault. All his rhetoric doesn't change that he WAS WRONG. Live with it, pay the clamp charge and move on.
He just embarrassed himself and his department making a fuss.

Instead of just making a dick of himself locally he's now an internationally recognised numnut with an audience of millions. There goes any hope of an undercover career LOL

I think my position is clear ?
