Man, hawk, you aren't kidding. Guts provide no grip.

It's strange that I have yet to hit a rabbit. I've come SO close so many times, but never managed to hook up with one.

I've hit two groundhogs, though. The one last year was HUGE. I hit him straight on, right through the middle. I did the whole "He's gonna move....THUMPTHUMP...ok, maybe not".

Yep, deer are my biggest concern, too.
I've been pretty lucky so far, only ever hit 1, and it wasn't on the bike.

I was maybe 19 or so, driving a POS Ford Tempo. Came around a turn, and there were 2 deer standing in the middle of the road.
I aimed for the small one.
Busted my grill and marker light, and I ended up barely off the road.
I replaced the grill with that black and yellow striped caution tape, and got a marker light at a junkyard. Good to go!

The thing with deer is that they are not only unpredictable and stupid, but just when you think they are all through...here comes one more. That's why when I see deer, I either stop completely or go VERY slow through the area. Many times, I've thought they were all through but they weren't.
Gotta be careful out there!!

'Roos are much the same except they like to change their mind 3/4 of the way across the road, so you get to have two goes at missing them. I don't worry too much in my ute as it's got a good bull bar, but they've scared the carp (damn this dyslexia!) out of me a few times on the bike.
When I lived in England I heard that if you hit a deer in your car you're not allowed to take it home for tea. However, the person behind was allowed to so people used to hunt them in pairs! I suppose they used to do it because venison is so dear....(what?..someone had to say it..)

The trick is , when driving fast down a country lane , always do it in reverse! That way it confuses the **** out of everyone!!!

In fact , if your trunk is open you don't even need to stop!!
