1996 parts bike to 1987 bike
i have been offered a 1996 cbr 1000f bike with lots of great parts. the recipient of the parts would be a 1987 cbr 1000f hurricane.
Question is - would it all fit ? minor hacks and adjustments is no deal breaker.
the reason its tempting is that my bike needs new tyres and brakes, which are all close to new on the donor bike. the motor, fork and swingarm is also in good condition.
plastics and instruments are all destroyed due to close encounter with wildlife.
input appreciated . will continue my hunt for answers

The '87 needs tires and brakes? Should be easier to just replace those tbh
Powerplant: Engine is the same on both bikes. Carbs, fuel hose routing and petcock are different. Probably have to figure out the vacuum system which is easy enough but can be a snag depending on level of familiarity and experience
Front swap: If it fits, there's a good chance but I don't know off the top of my head if it's an easy swap. Measure it up to see
Brakes: will be different due to '96's linked system. Not a straight swap, but simple to modify
Rear swingarm: Should work, but again you'll want to measure the parts. Probably need to pick up some spacers, so once you have measurements it's a matter of finding the right combination of spacers. Check the forum - I think it's an easy thing to go with the wider rear on these bikes so someone has probably worked out a formula
Other components: Not sure if they made many changes to the other components. I don't think later years had a fuel pump. I know it had a sidestand switch. Wiring will be different in places. Oil cooler and radiator should be a straight swap. Unsure about the rest
Plastics: Won't work without a lot of modification as later bikes were longer and the frame changed quite a bit. If you're good with plastic repair you could probably get some/most of it to work, but it wouldn't be an easy job by any stretch

ooh . so engine is the same . .... hmm. would be nice to get some bigger carbs then . .
the parts bike is no longer an option. the shipping was just too much . (its located far beyond driving distance)
thanks again for taking ur time to answer me mr tentacle - really appreciated the heads up on the engine.
ive ordered a new set of tires. the new brakes will have to wait until more money arrives (need to sell a car/parts to justify all my shopping - cannot stockpile any longer
)
the brakes bite hard but the discs are grooved from previous worn out brakepads.
