How to touch up engine scratches?

What is the best way to touch up scratches on the engine. I'm not talking about laying the bike down and sliding. Just small engine scratches from the bike tipping over. I've heard hit it with a black sharpie. High heat header paint from the auto store, spray onto something and use a Q-tip to blot on spots. Anyone have some good ideas they have tried?

Personally I like brushes to fill in scratches. I've had good results with automotive touchup paint applied with a brush (almost like nail polish) but a small sponge would work too. Less is more. 2-3 coats is ideal

A black paint marker could work, but I think a q-tip would leave behind a lot of cotton hairs. I wouldn't bother with header paint - the engine cases won't get hotter than 110 degrees or so, so you should be fine with standard paint
