Tripage 07 RR FE w/CA tail light Install/Write up/How To
Whew!
Well worth the two freaking days I spent putting this on. Pics will be added soon, but for now, I'll keep this post basic.
I ordered the license plate bracket, his modded CA tailight, and brackets for that (thank g*d)... For two hours I couldn't figure out how *tight* tight really is on this thing once you try to mash it in to the rear of the bike. I thought it wasn't the right one. I thought everything you could in this situation. It was a freakin nightmare.
But the steps pretty much are to:
remove both seats
remove rear plastic cowl, and remove exhaust cap
remove old fender (cut those wires hella close to the old fender or you may not have enough)
cut undertray (I used my Dremmel with a sanding bit) straight across where the middle bolt goes into the heatshield like this:
Now this is where it's becomes a pain.... Take the new brake light. Shove it in the rear plastic. It's not going to break, but you feel like it is. You'll think it's the wrong size, but it's not. shove it in there hard and take your time. While holding it in there (because the light will want to shoot out of there)... take your brackets (if you haven't ordered them from Tripage, make sure you have your own).. Put those brackets on the screws on that light and use your faring bolts to hold into place while you mess around with fitment.
Take that foam strip and attach it to the undertail where you cut it.. flush with the edge.
Now, put the rear cowl back on the bike with the light in there... If it's crooked, or not sitting right, you may need to trim a bit more on the undertray.
It's going to be very TIGHT!
While holding the light in place, screw the bracket into the rear fairing and into the undertray. Repeat for other side.
It should look like this:
Ok, now with that out of the way, take out your wiring info:
Orange left signals
Blue Right signals
White taillights and tag light
Orange is your left turn signal. Orange wire in the plug is the positive. If you have a CA taillight the yellow wire will attach to the orange wire.
The green wire in the same connection is the ground. You don't need this with the CA taillight because the ground is shared with the running light and brake light
Blue connection is your right signal. Same thing, blue is the positive and green is the negative.
White connection:
Black wire on the white plug is ground (negative from your tag light)
Running light/ tag light is white/black wire (positive from your tag light)
Brake light is the yellow/black wire
If you want to attach the tag light to the CA taillight the
Red wire is the running light (Positive from the tag light)
Green wire is the brake light
Black wire is the ground (negative from the tag light)
Tuck it away and clean it up after testing it. My plugs didn't line up with CA's, so I snipped and wired on my own. No biggie.
(thanks Tripage for all the pics and references)
The next and final hurdle is being able to put the rear seat on after. Tripage recommends "man handling" the rear edge plastic of the seat to get the "hook" in there. That's how I had to do it. Some ppl trim that plastic hook under the seat down a little and sharper. I did and it helped. Again, using the dremmel. YMMV.
Put the exhaust cap back on.
Heatshield removal/trim/as is is optional. I trimmed mine with Tin Snips.

RE: Ok, just installed the Tripage 07 RR FE w/CA tail light.
I didn't remove the heat shield... I think some ppl do, but I didn't. My rear end got hot (my tush, not the rear of the bike LOL). I did trim out the side of it tho, with tin snips. There was no need for it since the plastic from the sides were removed.
Since I wrote this tho, I removed the heat shield and stock exhaust and bought a Yosh RS5 carbon fiber... It comes with an adhesive sided heat shield to put on your undertray... Much cooler now!!!!
:-)
Sorry for the crappy pic- I took it the night I installed it (yes, in my living room) with my cell!

https://cbrforum.com/m_493143/tm.htm
The plate is much more legal if you will...we both have the same exhaust. worth a look I promise
