Time sert for 2005 cbr600f4i
Has anyone used a time sert kit to repair a stripped spark plug on a CBR600f4i. I drilled and tapped the hole but my question is the tap does not tap threafs to the bottom of the head. Maybe 2mm left the has no threads. Is this so the insert has a place to stop before being cold pressed to the head.
The tap handle does not go into the spark plug hole so this is why it will not tap to the bottom of the hrad. Is this normal and is this all accounted for by the time sert company. |
Seems that would be a question for the manufacturer.

I showed him photos that the tap didn't cut threads to the bottom of the head. They talked it over and sent me another extension handle that they made 6mm shorter. That allowed the tap to go all the way through. The result was that the insert fit perfectly. He said they already started cutting all of the extension handles 6mm shorter so this won't be an issue anymore. He said probably because they recommend not taking the head off, it's possible no one has seen this problem and only 4 threads of the insert was enough threads for the spark plug to be secure. |
Well that's too cool. Talk about excellent customer service. Glad it worked out for you. You never know what is going to happen unless you ask.

I did get in touch with the manufacturer. They told me no one has ever asked this question before.

https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/cbrforu...fdd896c7bc.jpg This shows how far the tap went into the head. This picture is from the bottom side of the head. You can see the portion that has no threads. Thats approximately 3mm. After i recieved the new extension handle i was able to finish tapping new threads right to the bottom of the head. Then the insert threaded all the to its stop point. |
Cool, thanks for sharing. It looks like a quality fix.
