shorty exhaust how to
well this is my first write up and i still need to finish it, but i'll post up the rest later. first i took a long look at the bike to get my ideas straight.
http://www.sharenow.com/base/content/12455/ unbolt the exhaust can, mine had three bolts http://www.sharenow.com/base/content/12456/ remove the can (i like the look without) http://www.sharenow.com/base/content/12457/ grind the rivets off to remove the cap (if yours have rivets) http://www.sharenow.com/base/content/12459/ measure the can for your desired length. take a piece of paper or magazine spine and bend it around the can to get a straight line marking. then mark your line around the can. rotate the can 3 inches at a time measuring each time to make sure your line is straight. http://www.sharenow.com/base/content/12461/ make sure to stay away from useless tools like the ones that got me stuck this weekend http://www.sharenow.com/base/content/12460/ so this is how i rode it to work today and i will post the rest of the pics when i am finished http://www.sharenow.com/base/content/12462/ |

RE: shorty exhaust how to
looks good but have u considered back pressure, if u havent ur goign to jack up ur motor
|
RE: shorty exhaust how to
honestly low back pressue isnt really a big deal on these motors, i think he will be fine
|
RE: shorty exhaust how to
Can you also use a drill, to take the rivets off?
Or you have to grind them off? This coming weekend I'm planning to shortened my Hindle Or if I have any time. |
RE: shorty exhaust how to
Why does it not effect these motors?
|
RE: shorty exhaust how to
Let's get to the cutt'n part...
|
RE: shorty exhaust how to
1) yes you can drill them out
2) i am running the bike right now with no exhaust so not worried about back pressure 3) gettin to the cuttin this weekend i work long hours |
RE: shorty exhaust how to
I have my exhaust drilled out but my temperature is much higher then it was before. Are you facing the same problems with have the whole exhaust removed?
But at the same time I didn't have my exhaust drilled last summer so I am not to sure. The reason I bring this up is because my friend and I have the same bike and when we sit in traffic I am always 10 degrees hotter. |
RE: shorty exhaust how to
Yes our bikes will run with low/no backpressure. I ran my F4i all last season w/o any packing in a D&D cut down. Sounded like firecrackers in a tin can...not my favorite by any means.
This month I took the can apart and threw some packing in there to little avail on quieting it down, so I started stuffing steel wool in the center. Started ideling better and sounded much better...very public tolerable. Once I took it out, I had tons more bottom end power and am not turning back. You can run with no backpressure, but your just shooting yourself in the foot because of how much low end power your just throwing out...not to mention that you can wake the dead and make out sportbike culture look even worse that it already does. |
