Honda CBR 600 F Sport (F4i) 2002 Fairing repair
 

Hello I'm new to this forum but took some photos when I was repairing the right hand side lower cowl on my Bike. Hope you guys find it helpful and enjoy!

I just needed a quick fix for the scratches on my lower cowl fairing so tried doing it with rattle cans as cheaply as possible. It is not the best
quality result and i did get some running laqueur spots and vinyls whern't that perfect either but managed to pull it off for about 150 $ so considering
a new fairing + vinyls would cost approx 5-700 $ it was pretty cheap. and would have gotten it even better with proper paint or paintjob at a shop.
But this is my first time and I was satisfied with the results :)

Tools + accessories used:

*Dremmel (small electrical device to form materials with and drill etc.)
*Hot air blower
'plastic repair compound (2 component)
*Rattle can primer, CBR colour code rattle can for original colour and laqueur
*Sandpaper, 240, 400, 800, 1200 and polishing compound.
*And original new oem vinyls ( can get them cheaper from ebay but safer to go with oem because of the quality issues with ebay stuff)


Ok first off a picture of the scratches before (previous owner had tipped it ower in the rain and the owner before that had done the same)

Here is a picture of the vinyls removed by blowing hot air, not too much so the plastic would melt but enough to get the vinyls easily removed.
And i used the dremmel to make the scratches a bit more deep for the plastic repair compound.

Here is a picture of the fairing where i have used the plastic repair goo and let it dry and used the dremmel to take away any excess of it AND I have sandpapered it from 240 to 1200 grit sandpaper (the 800 and 1200 paper was wet sanded) and after this i used some rubbing compound ( kind of goo that is like sandpaper for finer sanding)
Make sure you wash the surface troughly aswell between sandings and before applying the primer, unfortunately my cameras battery died after this one so i dont actually have any pictures of the finnished paint before vinyls but I just primed it and sanded some more with a fine water sandpaper 800 and then primed again and after that used 1200 grit water sandpaper and washed carefully. Then i sprayed on the originel colour code rattle can base paint and let it dry (ofc u have to let the primer dry aswell) and finally a clear coat of clear laqueur to finnish it off.. and then applied the vinyls.

And here is the fairing fitted too and my new yoshimura slip on, wich gave me a sticker to cover up a small scratch on the front cowl too wich is wery nice. It was my first time doing this and made it wery cheaply so it's far from perfect.. but atleast no more scratches, and besides the whole process only took me about 5 hours over 2 days. ENJOY!!
