Cbr 600rr 2004, cat C "steering issues"
Hi Guys,
So my honda cbr has come back from my insurance company as a cat C write off, their assesment was minor cosmetics and vague "steering issues". The mechanics have marked every pinch bolt from the top yoke down to the bottom axle pinch bolts and caliper bolts the bike was knocked off its sidestand by a reversing car, riding the bike left turns feel fine but rights seem to fall in very suddenly at 20-30mph, Honestly I cant really tell if the forks are straight by eye. I'd hazard a guess this is just fork misalignment but I've never seen/rode that to have any experience |
The only way to tell is to strip the front end.

You could try this, shouldn't take too long :-
. |
I’ve tried that method and it didn’t work, best method from my experience and lots of trial and error, is to unweight the front end by lifting it, support the front wheel with some blocks of wood and completely undo everything. Strighten it all up by using a marker with masking tape.
Tighten the bottom fork pinch bolts first, then the wheel, mudguard, and top yoke last. Seems to work. |

Care to elaborate?
I use a strip of tape on the top yoke over the ignition lock with a long match taped to it and a strip taped across the clocks, draw a line where the straight ahead position is and the match should be on the line when this is correct. You just need to make the sure the front wheel is held in place perfectly straight. |
