Wire spoke wheels on CBR600F4?
id like to put a wire wheel on a CBR600F4, so... i was wondering if anyones ever done this, where they got the hub, and how they got the right spacing with the brake rotors for the dual brake calipers?
|
There was a member a couple yrs back that was interested in doing the same. It proved to be somewhat difficult & think he abandoned the project.
|
does anyone have the measurements that would be useful?.. bikes not with me now and i wont have it out again until the spring... so.. what are the dimensions im looking at for axle diameter, spacing between each fork, how far apart the the brake rotors are, etc?
|
is it F4 specific? i didnt think front ends changed much before they went to inverted forks... so what works on an F2, F3 might work on an F4 as well, but i could be wrong

Aren't wire wheels really heavy? And you only want to put one on? If you plan on actually riding it and not just using it as a show piece, then I would imagine it will dangerously impact the handling characteristics of the bike.

If done professionally front and rear, there would be no "dangerous" changes in handling but you are talking potentially alot more weight which will affect how quickly the bike can transition from left to right in turns, how quickly it accelarates, etc. I would imagine this is for show as that's the only reason I've seen it done. That said the cheapest route to go is dirtbike supermoto conversion parts and they are not cheap at all. The only other option is custom cut rims which will cost more than the bike was brandy new. The ONLY way to do this correctly is to go talk with or contact a custom bike building shop.

all you need to do is find a supermoto or a hub that is compatable with your axles and rotors. then you could lace up a rim to it. a lot of supermoto guys only run 5in. rears - so you may want a lil wider than that. but they generally run 3.5 in fronts, so it could be straightforward.
spoked rims are more work though. it's like chain slack, so you'll have to measure them every once in a while, make sure they don't need tightening (spokes) and what not. other than that, it certainly wouldn't be dangerous or anything. you could also go the cruiser route. many sites make spoke hubs for harleys and other cruisers, so that's another route you can try. i'd work on the front first. all you'd really need is axle dia because like i said, supermoto guys and cruiser guys are all generally using 120 fronts - so i wouldn't worry about hub width until i found one that could take the axle and bearings that had a 2 rotor set up. ive seen dual rotors on motards and cruisers. i've seen spoked rims on a 954 fighter (the pics aren't up anymore of it - but it was slick looking) and a couple of other sportbikes and some old cafe racers. it can be done. Ridewright Wheels | Custom Motorcycle Wheels for Harley-Davidson and More you just need to start searching the net for others that have done it. |
