Wider tires?
i have a 600rr which as well all know comes standard with a 180 rear tire. well, i used the whole tire pretty quickly, and got kind of paranoid that if i leaned the bike any more i would lose it. my buddy suggested to put a 190 on it, which i did. thing is, i have a lot of room still left on the side of the 190. my question is, is the 10mm really that big a difference in size or does the 190 just not lean as far?
hypotheicly, you could lean all the way but it ends up not working out like that. the tire is wider and the center is more flat making it harder to lean than a smaller tire. It would be good if you do interstate travel or to have more stability for wheeles but smaller tires make it easier to turn.
That little 10mm is a great distance on the contact point. I have a 200mm rear and I can't lean anywhere close to what it was on the 180mm that was stock. You'd be pretty surprised.

A wider tire on the same rim will effectively be taller, raising your gearing and making the bike more difficult to "stand up" out of a turn. Then, as you go over the crest of the tire, it will make the bike feel like it wants to "flop" as you go back down into a turn. Much more obvious if it is on the front, but the physics are the same. As far as not using the "whole tire", now that the tire is effectively taller and with a more pointed profile, you will have to lean much farther to get to the edge. You will also find that the center will wear out much quicker.
havoc, you should read the post we have in the 954 section about the qualifiers... I dont think you would be happy.
Just as personal preference I like the 190 tire more than the 180. My bike feels stiffer and more controlled.

i'm on pilot powers, to demon child, that is one thing about the 190 i do like is the stability i have while i'm just cruising. but as we all know, these bikes arent made to go in a straight line.
