Well. I have a brand new battery. I checked the leads coming off the speed sensor, but they go into a wire loom so I will have to pull the seat and check some more places tomorrow. Just as I was about 2 miles from my house tonight the speedometer started working. The metal is expanding once it's hot and then making the connection? lol idkwtf

Huh? Mmmmkay.

With your intermittent problem, what you just last posted OP is most likely the scenario, i've seen that many a time with a poor connection to ground, that after a period of time the circuit will start working once it has leached a little current through it. The sensor wires should run into a 3 pin and then an 8 pin connector a long with some other wires. Pull that apart and clean the pins up and throw some dielectric grease or 3m silicone paste in there.

My dad had the issue on his VTX and after he took it back to the dealer thats what they did to fix it, was a bad ground connection. The trip would reset and speed would read zero spiratically. He did some research on some forums and that it was a common issue with that bike. wouldnt hurt to give it a try.

Other things would be make sure the sealed connection at the ECU doesnt have condensation in it or have tons of dielectric grease in it like some people do to try and keep moisture out of a connector. it works opposite and will not make a connection until it heats the grease up and the pins makes contact.
