What should be the cost to replace transmission gears?
I've got a 2001 CBR929. 1st and third gears were pretty worn , shift forks, drum etc.... needed to be replaced. A guy at my church does bike work, so I found the guts for the tranny (used) and had him go at it. I actually helped him every step of the way. But at the end he tells me the cost and it seems very high. Can anyone give me a realistic amount of labor hours it should take to rebuild the transmission this way? Or what a fair cost would be? Thx in advance

If you helped with all of it take how many hours of labor and multiply by 35-45, at least that is what people here charge for labor. And that is the cost for mechanics doing the work at either their home or home shop.
I know if I take my bike to my local shop they charge $95 an hr. Have a local bike mechanic who does the work at the shop at his house and he charges $35 an hr.
Always best to get an estimate before work is started so you're not floored by the price of your bill.

And, the big thing is - how much did you actually help?
Did you wheel the fully faired 929 into his workshop, or did he have just the motor to work with.
If he's a friend, and he has the bike up and running - is it worth chasing pennies that you know a shop would have had you over a barrel for?
