Default upper cowl not lining up with right side fairing

ok so i finally got my dream bike 2007 1000RR, when i picked it up i noticed that where the upper cowl and right fairing meet there is a slight gap... I took it all apart thinking who ever put the fairing on after the oil change might not have aligned it proberly but i keep trying to it on the way it should be but its not staying..... what the hell could be causing this? Any ideas??

thats what i was thinking, you think if when he put the fairing back on after the oil change and since didnt line it up and with it being so cold the fairing might have stiffened and it wont fit properly?

Im not a plastic pro but I highly doubt it. See if you have some hidden damage somewhere by measure both sides mounting points.

How large is the gap?

Its hard to tell from a used bike what the previous owner may have done. But, from having all of my bikes fairings off and other various parts off. I can tell you that the fairing stay plays a big role in those fairings lining up. It could be the previous owner had it off for something and its not adjusted correctly. If you still can't get the fairings lined up, maybe loosen the fairing stay's two bolts where it mounts to the main frame, then tilt it so the upper fairing drops a bit. it will only move a small amount, but it can make a huge difference.

how can you tell if the fairing stay is bent? It would take a lot to bend it too.

i know if i push down on the cowl just a lil bit it's perfect. I even put a washer between the headlight and the cowl just to push it out a lil and it helped. I need a new cowl anyways.
