Default Bike Problem

Ok this morning I got to take off for work get about half a mile from the house. I stop at a red light and my bike starts smoking. So I panic and run the light to go pull over at the next business turn in. I stop and I can smell a strong scent of anti-freeze. I check my coolant level and it is lower than it was. ( I just changed my oil and added coolant 3 days prior) Also the day after I added coolant my bike was running a little hot (185-200 degrees). But yesterday it ran fine and at normal temp. When I put coolant in I did accidently put it a little above the max line. Any suggestions as to wtf is going on? Thanks, Justin btw it is an '05 CBR600rr 3200 miles thanks.

Was it smoking from the tail pipe? You didn't say. Also 185-200 is pretty normal I run at that temp all day.

It was dark so I didn't see, but I also wasn't looking. I'm about to go fire the bike up and let it run a minute, i'll let you know if it smokes or not. As far as the temp goes, my bike has never been that high while riding. It gets like that riding through slow traffic or at a light but I was going about 65 and it kept climbing. When I got to about 80-85 it would start to cool but never went below 184. It may not be a problem but it just concerns me b/c it never did that before plus the smoke this morning. well i'm going to go check it out and I will post my findings, thanks, justin

there may be a good chance that because you overfilled it the smoke was from the engine blowing the extra coolant out. check the coolant level now, make sure it's between the min and max, make note of the level and ride a little, see what happens, you may find that all is now well.

good luck.

yea that's what I was thinking/hoping for. It's running now and not smoking from tail or anywhere else. Everything appears normal. Yea I slightly overfilled it and now it is a little past the min mark.

I agree the tank was probably slightl overfull and when the coolant expanded it pushed some out and possibly dripped onto you exaust pipe. Just keep an eye on that level cause if you are losing coolant it is going somewhere.

Yea I rode about 60 miles round trip and everything was fine. That's probably what happened. When I got to the dealership, It showed alot more coolant that it did when I left. It went up quite a bit so i'm sure with the amount I put in it was coming out of the overfill hose. I appreciate all the replies guys, justin
