tranny or clutch problem

Hi,
Im working on a 92 CBR600 F2 for a friend. Bike is ruff. Chain broke and balled up at front sprocket and busted sprcket cover. I managed to get water pump back i and held down.
The problem is it wont turn over unless the clutch is pulled in. If i let out at idle it will stall.( There is no chain on it) I can click shifter and it goes into alll the gears easily and downshift back easily.
I took clutch cover off and dont see anything wrong. Havent dug any further. I can see chain behind clutch basket. its on.
Any clues as to whats wrong? Guessing to many power shift wheelies.

Thanks
Nathan Lovern,va

ok i'm new to the forum and when I bought my bike the other day ( 1989 600F ) the guy told me that if the kick stand is down...even with the clutch pulled in..and you try to put it in gear it will stall. I guess its a safety thing to make sure you have the stand up. I know this scenario is a little different (opposite ) from your problem but I was just wondering if the sensor that tells that the kick stand is up or down might be malfunctioning...and could've gotten hit when the chain broke. This is a long stretch but with technology involved, you never know what it could be.

Does the neutral indicator light come on while in neutral? Could be a problem with that sensor? ...take my two cents for what its worth...like I said..im new..but im just trying all the options I might look at.

To the gentleman (nlovern)

Have you pulled off the front sprocket cover, could be a bent sprocket or even worst the drive shaft. It is most likely in-pinged on the front sprocket. The reason it is stalling, if that is the problem, is just like when you don't have enough speed when leaving first gear. If its stuck, the trans can't spin and in turn the crankshaft can't spin. Hope that helps

To the other gentleman (1989CBR600F)

You are right it is a safety feature, If your bike is in gear with the kickstand down it will not start. If you wanted to you can bypass it. I do it at my shop all the time for stunt bikes.

netural light all works

The nuteral light all works. The front sprocket is wore out but looks fine. it turns freely in netural. what wont turn is tht shaft the inner clutch basket is attached to. u can hook a hot wire straight from batteery to starter and it wont turnover without the clutch lever pulled in.
Could a bearing be froze up on tranny shaft?
