Default Torque Values?

Can someone give me a crash course in the significance of torque values for the bolts in the fairings, windscreen etc...?

What might happen if the torque is exceeded, and what might happen if it is not?

Mucho gracias

Default RE: Torque Values?

I don't know of anyone who uses a torque wrench on faring bolts. Get 'em snug like they were when ya took 'em off and they should be fine. As much as our bikes buzz and vibrate (why do ya think chicks love 'em so much[8D]) you oughta check them occasionally anyway.

As far as worst case scenarios: too tight and you could either break off the bolt or crack the plastic. Too loose and the bolt falls out and annoys you with unwanted noises. Worst case I suppose the faring could fall off and drag and cause a dangerous situation but that'd require several bolts all falling out before you noticed plastic slapping.

Now for everything else I recommend you getting a torque wrench -- a clicker type is fairly accurate and can be had for under $50 -- cheap compared to the time it takes to drill out a broken bolt.

Default RE: Torque Values?

That's exactly what i thought. I had a torque wrench on me when i was removing the fairing but couldn't find the justification to use it and just used my judgement when it came to tightening the bolts. Thanks for the reply.
