Always strap your helmet, THEN put your gloves on.
When on a hill, hold the rear brake as to not roll back, release it as the clutch engages and the throttle is applied.
Buy an anti-fog insert for your helmet!
Do not ride with tennis shoes, get some boots that will stand up for a crash, your feet are important. Protect them.
Before you even start riding, buy gear that fits well, will be suitable for whatever weather you are riding in, and will protect you.

In addition,
read your owners manual, of you dont have one, download one. Read it cover to cover, take a MSF course.
Look where you want to go, not directly in front of your while cornering.
Bikes countersteer once the speed goes up.. keep that in mind.
Practice sudden transitions. get use to your bike and how it will react in a panic situation.
Practice sudden stops. Your bike is about 75-80 percent front brake.
When carrying a passenger, make sure they sit completely still during slow manevours. any body position change will greatly upset the bike while slow driving.
be extra cautious when on wet roads until you know how your bike will react.
Be extra cautious on corners... thats a common place sand and gravel.
Find an empty parking lot and go to town. Practice, practice, practice.

Always strap your helmet, THEN put your gloves on.
Never get off before putting your side stand down

Never lube your chain on the center stand with the engine running in gear!!!.. ?
(oil cans are expensive and hard to remove from the primary drive covers..
)Get your keys out of your pockets before you put your gloves on and before you actually sit on the bike

Try to remember to not park your ride after running on reserve on the way home because walking is a bitch and pushing your ride to a gas station the next day is even way worse

If for any reason you do an involuntary burnout and you can't control your bike be ready to be catapulted off your bike... this happened to me once...just once.[:@]
