thermal coating on headers?
 

Hello all, I'm considering having my headers coated with something like jet-hot. There is a shop not far from here that does a thermal coating of the sorts. My goal is to make the headers look a little better... they have a little rust and to try to keep my left shin from being cooked from the heat in the summer.

I know it will improve the looks... but will it help my shins? Anyone done this?

I too was contemplating something of the sort. I was probably just gonna try a black wrap on them. Should make a noticeable difference.

I have mine jet hot coated and its like night to day.

you would have to be carefull of having a carbon end can, they are very sensitve to heat as they are, so if you heat coat the headers, then more heat will be transfered to the muffler, the heat caoting it to improve gas velocities, therefore improve cylinder scavenging of exhaust gases(correct me if i am off)... just something to be aware of... if you heat coat them then you really souldnt have that much radiated heat, so your shin should be heaps cooler.... hope this helped..

I have my headers and mid pipe jet hot hoated and I have a carbon canister. Been that way for over a year and not one problem with the canister still looks new. Keeps the heat out of the bike alot. It could be 90 out side and even in stop and go riding I hardley ever see the bike get to 230 degrees.
