Default Stupid rear axle bolt question

I need to adjust my chain on my 02 F4i and when I loosened my rear axle i didn't need anything on the side opposite of the side i used my wrench on. Now that i need to tighten it back down it spins after i get to a certin point. I thought it was just a allen wrench that I needed but the largest I and home depot have is 10mm. Do I just use a larger size that I dont have or is it something else entirely that I should be using on that side? This is the first time I adjusted my chain since I got my bike a few weeks ago and I dont have any manual or tool kit that it would have came with

Yes you need a socket on both sides or the axle nut will keep spinning. I believe a 27mm and a 24mm.

there isn't a socket on the one side, it is smooth and round. It doesn't look like it's stripped, it looks smoooth and round. and in the center there is a reces that looks like it might fit a allen key or something but home depot sells up to 10mm and thats still too small. I just took a couple pics of where I am talking about. Excuse the dirty bike, it was raining yesterday on the way hoome from a bike rally and I havent cleaned her yet...

I have a '02 F4i as well and mine has a nut on that side. Yours looks like it has been replaced with one that uses a allen wrench. I would just replace your chain anyways because how close it is to the "replace chain" area.

Forget home depot and try a trade tool centre.

Got a sears or home depot nearby? Try there, they do make them that big.

Well I dunno what you guys have in a Home Depot but i'm guessing it's like a hardware megastore or some ****. We have a shop here called "Trade Tools" They specialize in tools only. If they don't have it there then they don't make it. Can also try a nuts and bolts shop cuz they almost always have the tools to fit their products.

you can try buying a bolt and nut from home depot.put the nut onto the bolt tighten then put the head of the bolt in the axel and use a wrench to hold the nut.probly the cheapest way instead of buying tools

Thanks for the help at least I know it isn't normal, guess they had a reason but I don't really want to know how they managed to lose the oem bolt lol
