Stripped Threads On Side Stand Bolt (2004 F4i)
Hi everyone, I seem to have royally ****ed myself this time. I recently acquired a pristine '04 F4i that had a bent kickstand (previous owner had it lowered.) I purchased a nice replacement off ebay and went to replace it. Loosened up both bolts then had a buddy hold the bike upright while I went to pull the side stand off. First bolt came off but had some resistance, looks like locktite was applied, not sure if that's the way they come from the factory or not. Went to undo the second bolt and it just kept spinning...and spinning without actually unscrewing. I was unable to actually get the bolt out too so I don't even know the extent of the damage. I tried wiggling the side stand and pulling, grabbing the bolt with vicegrips, was going to try and get a flathead under the bolt while "unscrewing" but the bolt hasn't actually unscrewed enough to slip one under the flange. I thought about using my bolt extractor kit or something but I have a feeling these bolts are harder than my kit. Anyways...first off, if anyone has ideas on how to get the bolt out I'd appreciate it. Secondly, what are my options gonna be as far actually fixing this? It looks like the side stand bolts directly onto the crank case and I'm not sure if the threads on the case are fried at this point. Is this something that can be re-tapped? Preliminary research shows that something called a Helicoil is also a potential option? Please advise, thank you for reading.
