Default Speedo fault F4i

Hey all, I've been having some issues with the speedo on my 01 CBR600 F1 (US = F4i) for a while now

Basically for the first say 15mins of my ride the speedo reads 0mph - if I do a motorway stretch (estimate 80mph) for about 15mins then the speedo will come back on and stay on for the rest of my ride. If i do some slow speed back roads (i.e. 0-50mph) then it wont come on even after 40mins or so so I don't know if it is a temperature thing?

I have checked the connections between the speedo and the speed sensor (a total PITA to get to) and they all seem ok, no corrosion etc. Really don't wanna spend the £130 plus several hours of my time changing the speed sensor if I don't have to so does anybody have any other ideas??

Ah ,the FI light comes on too and the stored fault code is code 11 - fault with wiring or speed sensor.

Anyone know of any voltmeter checks I can do or if ripping it out and cleaning it might help? If I NEVER had a working speedo I'd have changed the sensor by now, but it just seems strange that it is ok after a few miles at higher speeds.

Anyone else had this?

There should be 3 wires going to the speed sensor. The power supply (+12) & (-) and signal. Mine is color coded as +12=black / negative=green / signal=pink. You'rs might be different. Anyway, with the key on check for 12v between the black and green wires (or whatever yours may be). If that's not there, fix that. If that's good, check for a 5v pulse between the pink and green wire while you rotate the rear wheel. If that's not there, replace the sensor.

Thanks! my wires are the same colour as yours so thats a good start!

Will let you now how I get on; I just cant figure out why it works after a few mins then stays working that's all, if it was always dead then I'd have replaced it by now ... Thanks again

Should be a connector that you can get at relatively easy. Testing done with sensor connected.
