Default Slight emergency guys, please help! oil drain screw threaded??

the thread inside the engine i think has threaded somehow....

maybe i overtightened it? as when i was tightening it back up... i heard a sudden **SNAP** ....but i thoght over-tightening would only damage the washer surely not the inside!! arghhhh!

ive done oil changes on my hornet plenty of times, so i have no idea why this has happened.
the bike is reasonably old... 1994 cbr600 f2.... wear and tear?

im now stressing out, as this is my only transport, and i need it every day!

i am near to a car garage but bike places are too far... hmmm any quick fix so i can at least get over to a garage?
using a gasket to seal it better? (it is finger tight but still leaking oil)

how does one repair such damage?

**crying on the inside**

If you are taking it to a garage to have them fix it, leave it alone and put it in a truck, on a trailer, or tow it. Don't mess it up any more by trying to plug it and ride.

Otherwise, you will be tapping it to a larger size or putting a heli-coil in it. Do-able at home if you have the tools and know how to do it.

You need a new oil pan. Search the net for a good used one or see if a dealer can order them still. They are only $150 new and $8 for a gasket.

how about a 2nd hand oil pan?

if new gasket, then i need gasket maker also right?

im going to try alloy welding it tomoro morning, but if that doesnt workout, then il resort to above solutions.

cheers mate

you may be able to find a second hand one. Search the net....

I would just get a gasket for less than $8, but you can do whatever you want to.

Also, I wouldn't risk my motor by riding around with a drain plug being temporarily held in. That's just asking for it.

oh of course, i dont want to take any unnecessary risks, or endanger other people!!

but surely the welding would be a sound repair and equally strong, no?

if not, then yes il just replace the whole oil pan/sump with a 2nd hand part.

thanks, much appreciated.

I would think that if you dont squeeze those cracks closed before welding that the drain bolt might not let you tighten it tight enough and start slipping as you tighten. Theroreticly the hole is bigger than it was unless you squeeze those cracks closed first. If that makes any sense.
