Default Shifter problems

What's up, I'm new to bikes I'm having a problem with my bike it's a 01 f4i it real hard to switch into gears & the shifter pedal is actually getting stuck & isnt dropping back down after shifting it into gear I can't figure out the problem the bike was just riding fine I tried reading other posts I'm guessing it could be a clutch or clutch cable problem! Can anyone give me some insight thanks

Check the clutch cable. It should have about 1/4" to 3/8" of slack. Any more and it
might not be properly dis-engaging the pressure plates, thus making it hard to shift.

If the cable is properly adjusted, you may have a bent shift fork, which will require
much more work to repair. I'm hoping it's just the cable has too much slack.

Good luck, Ern

if the adjusting the cable doesn't work, disconnect both ends and see if it moves smoothly. it may be frayed inside and stretching when you use it. hope for the best, internal trans stuff is not fun to do.

Take the shifter off it sounds like the bushing the shifter slides on is corroded up, my law 6 used to do this. The pedal itself where it mounts to the rear set is where the issue probably is. I take my shifter off every service now and use lubricant to kprevent this
