I bought a 96 1000f some 3 months back, and shes running rich, 20 mpg around town, and the exaust smells of un-burned petrol. It's running good just put in new plugs, air & oil filters, and oil. Checked the air box for nesting rodents, and both sides of intake ports for baggies, gloves ect... Choke and enrichment are functioning properly. Today I'm checking for restriction ie intake. Should I have the carbs sync? Bike has 37k I am 2nd owner, and it was well cared for. Your advice would be greatly appreciated.

I would sync the carbs. I would also check to make sure you're running factory jets and that the pilot is turned out to the factory setting.

 

Thanks for the tip marc, I'll check the pilot, but I think the pryor owner did some stuff in there because some vent lines are dissconected, and if I connect them she doesn't run. When I'm done getting her running right, and all the california stuff is removed properly, I'll post it.
