Removed water pump -- Oil dripping out?
So, have been having some issues with the bike overheating and bad temperature readings, kinda going through the process of replacing one thing at a time.
Replaced the fan relay, didn't ultimately fix the problem. Replaced the temperature sensor, didn't work. Went to replace the water pump today and when I went to remove it from the engine, oil started coming out. Though the coolant and the oil don't seem to be mixed (head gasket failure is at the very bottom of my list of things to replace.)
My next attempt was going to be the thermostat, thinking that's possibly worn out after 54k miles if not the water pump.
This is what I'm working with right now. Anyone have any input? Is it normal for oil to come out of the engine when the water pump is pulled?

hi. can you tell us your bike model/year please.
it's normal to drip some oil when removing it from the engine. i would put it on paddock stand and insert a cotton rag inside that bore until i clean / inspect the water pump..
you can check thermostat valve using hot water. manual has the specs. its max lift and temp range.

It's a 2007 Honda 600RR.
Replaced the water pump earlier and the temp gauge on the cluster seems to be working fine, burped the air from the coolant lines, etc. Though the physical heat from the engine is insanely hot, even after just riding casually for about 15 minutes. The temp gauge is reading normal levels, the fan comes on when it's supposed to (I was having a major issue with this previously.)
Drained the oil entirely and there was no sign of coolant/water mixed with the oil itself which means it's not a head gasket leak thankfully.
Going to try the oil cooler next and see if that helps at all, if not then it's the thermostat next. If not that then I have absolutely no idea. =|
