Default Rear Wheel Size Upgrade

Hi all. I'm a new owner of an :CBR 1000F 1988.

Seems the later models carry a lot larger rear section rear tyre on wider rim.

My question is, has anyone any experience uf upgrading the rear wheel to the larger wider one. Is it worth it Handling n traction wise and how involved is it .

Ie will it go straight on the same swinging arm , do discs, calipers , caliper mount need altering , any help greatfully received .

Thanks

Mark

The factory tire size I believe is a 140/80-17R. When changing the tire size, you have to look at clearances. Like the left to right inside the swing arm. If there is enough room for everything to move like it should you can do it. Now, the tire size that is on there was designed with the bike. With-that said, Normally you can get one size up without any problems. My bike came stock with a 180/55-17R, but I run a 190/55-17R. I like having the wider tire for the track. Going any bigger than one size up most times you won't have the clearance for it. Hope that helps
