pops out of second gear
ok so i have a 04 1000rr and it seems like every time i give it half or more throtle it will pop out of gear. when this happens its like the bike is going into neutral and it will slam itself back into gear. this only happens in second and it doesnt happen until i really put the power down. just cruising its fine. the bike has 26,000 miles on it. anybody else have this type of thing happen or any ideas on where i should start?

slippin tranny. Are you the original owner?
yes i am. i have to admit that i have done my fair share of second gear wheelies on this bike and im sure thats not exactly good for it.
your either gettin close to blowin out second gear (most likely problem) or the clutch is goin but you would be haveing slipment issues with other gears too if that were the case, so i would say second gear synchro's are gettin worn out and not holding the gear under load anymore.
thats what im thinking it is too. i was told that it may just be a bent shift fork but i dont know. im not looking forward to tearin the bike down that far either way. i have personally never had to mess with the tranny on a bike.
i have the same problem on my 03 F4i, except 3rd gear wont stay at all along with your second gear issue. i replaced my shift drum because it had chips in 2nd and 3rd but it didnt fix anything, next im going after the shift fork cuz the p.o. dropped it about 973245978324 times.

That ain't no clutch. If it was your clutch it do it in every gear. It's your left shifting fork in tranny. It moves your gear dogs and shift drum into place going threw the gears. The gear dog is rubbing against it wearing it down. It's not as thick as it was new. Getting thin time to replace. Pretty big job.
I'm always hearing about the shifting forks be bent. I've never seen one bent. But I have seen a couple thinned from rubbing again gear dogs. I'm sure there is some out there but I haven't ran into one yet.

its actually a super simple job on an f4i anyway.....well not SUPER simple, if your mechanicly inclined it wasnt hard at all, oh and to the o.p., mine started out doing it in only 2nd gear, then started taking out third. so id stop riding until you fix it if possible.
ok so if it is a shift fork do you think that i should just go ahead and replace all 3 and get it out of the way? like i said, i have never had to mess with any of this stuff on a bike. my better judgment would say that since its apart i might as well do it all.
