Overheating??

I just bought a 99 cbr 900 rr. The bike will run fine at speed but if you get caught at a couple of red lights it wants to heat up. The guy I bought it from said it was the temp sensor. Could this be it? How hot should it be before I pull over and stop?

RE: Overheating??

It sounds like a bad fan motor or relay. Does the fan kick on???? it should come on around 220. If the fan is kicking on you need to have the sensors checked but in most cases it is the fan motor or relay. If the fan does not kick on check the relay than check the motor.

RE: Overheating??

All bikes will heat up when you come to a stop rather quickly. There is no air flow through the radiator when the bike is stopped. It just matters how hot it is getting, and if your fan is kicking on when it should.

How hot is it getting? If the bike is getting over 235, that is too hot and you need to pull over. The fan should be kicking on around 220-225.should cool rather quickly once the fan is on.

Thanks for the replies. He didn't have tag or insurance and hardly ever drove in town. He said he got it up to 215 once and pulled over. After reading more into this everyone has said the fan won't kick on until around 220, therefore I don't think anything is wrong with it.I just got it and it's getting a new tire tomorrow so I'll ride it around then and let yall know.
